The theatre unit is one of many units at Suntreso Government Hospital that plays it specific and well-defined role in the overall health delivery at the facility. The theatre came into full operation from 2003.
The operation theatre is a place where minor and major surgical operations are carried out. The theatre environment is designed to minimized the risk of transmission of infections to the patients, staff, from the air, the building or / and the staff.
Four zones of cleanliness are therefore recognized in the operating theatre. These are Outer Zone, Clean Zone, Aseptic Zone, and Disposal Zone.
The theatre provides all surgical care to patients within the Bantama sub metro, it environment and beyond.
The operating theatre is made up of three categories of staff, the anesthetist’s team, the team of nurses and the orderlies.

Examples of minor surgeries performed are:
- Excision and Biopsy
- Incision and Drainage
- Application of POP
- Luturing of Lacerated wounds
- EOU – Evacuation of Uterus
Examples of major surgeries performed are:
- Caesarean Section
- Hernia Repair / Hermorrhaphy
The theatre attends to both emergency and elective (planned) surgical cases. The staff also five-health education to our surgical client, assists clients and relatives with signing of consent form, the theatre nurses also reviews surgical cases that needs further management to either advanced affiliates and also receives referral cases from other neighboring facilities.
